Guarding the shoreline; a sentry of squares and shapes standing at post; backs to the coastal rock face; extending foliage eagerly stretching its limbs toward the waters edge.  Grey dark clouds keep the fun hidden until hopefully tomorrow when the doors can open; the people return with bagels, platters and conversation about importance and the negligence of others.

But for today the beach belongs to the contemplative, the dogs who jump in and out of the shallows, the washed-up seaweed, the gulls picking up a stray dinner.  The lonely figures enjoy the antiseptic spray, the chilly winds and the soft words of uninterrupted kindness.
